Our goal is to provide homeowners with forward-thinking design and eco-friendly, quality construction. That’s why we’re one of the only local, semi-custom builders to offer economically built homes. Every Verde Home receives a Home Energy Rating Index (HERS Index). A HERS rated energy efficient home is the key to green living, providing better home comfort, lower utility cost and higher resale values. In other words, we build homes as efficiently as possible to save you energy costs and to protect the environment!

Home Energy Rating Index (HERS Index)

The HERS index is like the MPG of your home that tells you how energy efficient your home is compared to other homes.  Our homes are on average 20-30% more efficient than standard homes, helping you save money and the planet. Our homes achieve this level of success through a combination of energy–efficient components, such as:

  • Superior Insulation Systems
  • High–Performance, Quality Windows
  • Tight Construction and Ducts
  • Efficient Heating and Cooling Equipment
  • Qualified Lighting and Appliances
  • Advanced Framing Techniques
  • Low Flow Water Fixtures

Enjoy the peace of mind knowing that each Verde Home is inspected and tested by a third party certified Home Energy Rater. This Home Energy Rater works closely with the builder throughout the design and construction process to help determine the needed energy–saving equipment and construction techniques for the particular home.

How the HERS Index Works

The HERS Index Score is a measurement system for homes based on their energy performance. A home built to the 2006 International Energy Conservation Code is awarded a rating of 100 on the HERS Index. This is taken as the RESNET Reference Home. The lower a home rates, the more energy efficient it is. Therefore, a home with a rating of 70 on the HERS Index is 30% more efficient than the RESNET Reference Home. A rating of 130, however, is 30% less efficient than the RESNET Reference Home.

  • Lower utility cost = lower total cost of ownership
  • Comfort
  • Environmentally Friendly
  • Higher Resale Values
